Planning a family reunion near Houston starts with choosing a setting where relatives can spend time together somewhere outside the usual routine. At Newman’s Castle in Bellville, Texas, our family-run property offers a custom 12th-century-style castle experience in the quiet countryside west of Houston. If you are considering Newman’s Castle for a family reunion, it helps to understand the castle setting, the property’s history, the grounds, current overnight options, and how to contact us about your gathering.
Planning a Family Reunion Near Houston at Newman’s Castle
We hear from a lot of families searching for something different than the usual backyard gathering or rented hall. A family reunion near Houston does not have to mean driving into the city. Bellville sits close enough for an easy day trip, and the castle setting gives relatives a shared destination rather than just another living room. Here is what we think is worth knowing before you reach out about your visit.
Start With the Castle Setting
Newman’s Castle sits in the rolling countryside just outside Bellville, surrounded by trees and water. The property has a moat with alligators living in it, a working drawbridge that weighs 3,000 pounds, an accompanying portcullis, a chapel, five round corner turrets, a courtyard, and a central keep. A perimeter wall surrounds the castle, which also offers a dramatic view of the surrounding lands. These permanent features give families a setting with distinct castle character.
Learn the Family Story Behind the Castle
Our castle exists because of one person’s determination. Mike Newman, who also owned Newman’s Bakery in town for nearly three decades, broke ground on the castle in 1998. He designed and built most of it himself, and he moved in by 2007. After Mike passed away in March 2024, family members became the new Castle Keepers and continued his legacy at Newman’s Castle.
Plan Your Family Reunion Near Houston With a Castle Tour First
We recommend starting with a general tour. Tours at Newman’s Castle welcome groups of any size and are available six days a week with reservations required. A tour gives your family a chance to see the castle, courtyard, natural surfaces, and countryside setting before discussing your private gathering separately. For family reunion details and group requirements, call 979 487 6753.
Review Overnight Options Separately
If your family wants to stay overnight, rooms at Newman’s Castle are currently available for overnight rental. If lodging matters to your family reunion, review the current room options separately from your event inquiry.
Prepare Your Family for the Grounds
Because the castle is located in the countryside, it helps to prepare family members for the surfaces they may encounter. Expect natural and often rough wood, natural stone floors indoors, gravel around the grounds, and dirt underfoot outside. Bugs and insects show up at certain times of year despite precautions. Sensible footwear and clothing are recommended. Fancy high heels with open toes are not recommended.
